This is the first post of a series of three that will include videos from a show I went to on January, 20, 2012
I went to Les and Jim’s Lincoln Lanes in Merrill, WI to see a few bands last weekend. The first band that played was Speaker Eater. They are one of my favorite bands in the region. Speaker Eater is a young band that continues to impress me. Their live show continues to improve and on this night they played some new songs that they are going to start mixing this weekend. I really look forward to hearing them when they are finished.
As for the show, this was the first time I have been to this establishment. The bands played in a banquet room at the bowling alley. It was a good set up and the sound was very good. I was a little older than the rest of the crowd, as it was an all ages show. While it was a little awkward at first, I had a great time. It is nice to see that people are putting on shows with great bands in a venue that a younger crowd can go see.
The sound for all the bands was good, and they all played well. As with any show, especially one with six bands, I had my favorites and those that I didn’t care for. The crowd was a decent size and they all seemed really into the show. I can’t imagine that those that put it on wouldn’t consider it a success.
