I had the opportunity to see Romero open for Jucifier this week. Romero is a three piece stoner rock band from Wausau, Wisconsin. Romero is a young band and you can tell it listening to them. The set started out a little weak, but got better as it went on. They definitely ended with their strongest songs, unfortunately the second to last song felt like they lifted the riff from The Sword. Their last song was by far the strongest of the night.
Their future has potential. Especially if they can focus their style. As of now they are too all over the place stylistically. One song will be slow and doomy, then they play something quicker, then they try a song with fancy riffs. Both the guitarist and the drummer sing, which I always feel is a bonus to have more than one vocalist, especially when they can actually sing. The songwriting needs some work but like I said they are young as a band and their last song being their newest was the best of the night.
I look forward to seeing Romero again in the future and hope to see them develop into a great band.
P.S. They did not play out of that wall of amps. Those were for Jucifier.
