Iron Fucking Thrones! This is the band that got me off my ass and back to the blog.
I have been digging this band for awhile now. Then I saw that they were going to be playing the Frequency for a Rock N Rail night. I was on edge for weeks waiting to see this show.
This atmospheric metal band’s sound is best described as I heard them inform a young lady at the bar . “Our music is very loud and heavy. But if you take the time to listen to it you will find that it is very pretty much like classical music. As far as vocals go, you know how sometimes you have words that need to be yelled when you say them. Well all the words in our sentences are like that.” Not an exact quote but a good paraphrasing of the conversation.
Iron Thrones brings a big heavy atmospheric metal wall of sound. The vocals fit in well and I would have to put their new album The Wretched Sun in my top 10 releases for 2010. Amazingly thick and swirling guitar sounds coming from one guitar. Great bass lines and wicked drumming. If you are a fan of Rosetta, City of Ships or other atmospheric metal this is something you need to check out.
It’s always tough for me to go see a band that I love on CD live for the first time because I am afraid that I will be disappointed. This was not the case. Very impressive live show and I am so very glad that I got out to see it. It was worth every ounce of pain I suffered early at work the next day. Get out and see this band! I can not give a higher recommendation. Also, buy some merch, they have the best pricing I’ve ever seen. I got 2 CDs and a T-shirt for $15.
